Pros: Price, storage, good looks, fit and finish.
Cons: Instruments, ski locker
The Bottom Line: A great boat. There are nicer boats out there but for the money I spent this one seemed like the best value.
carvedrock_com’s Full Review: Bayliner 195 Classic We purchased our 2005 Bayliner 195 Classic at the end of the 2005 season. We paid $15000 including prep, delivery, and trailer. Not once have we regretted our purchase.
We were attracted to the very nice lines of the boat and the abundance of storage space within the boat. Many other boats at this price point lack usable storage built along the sides of the boat and the rear seats are too low to store a cooler under. The Classic’s ski locker is smaller than I would prefer but its size is of course limited by the overall size of the boat.
Our engine is the 4.3 liter Mercury with 135 horsepower. Our top speed is in the mid 40 mph range with the family on board. At that speed the ride is still dry and controlled. The engine/boat is adequate for pulling skier, tubing, and all the other sports we pursue. Our gas usage varies but is usually less than 15-20 gallons for a day and a half weekend.
Instruments are sparse but adequate, including Tach, Speed, Oil Pressure, and Temperature.
The largest shortcoming of the boat is the small step provided in lei of a swim platform. When we are setting up for water sports we must do so from inside the boat.
