As of right know I’am using half inch treated ply wood. I am also wondering what is the best way to connect it to the existing wood?

If you’re going to cover it with carpeting, then a good marine grade plywood should be OK for flooring. If the floor is going to be exposed wood, then mahogany planking would be a traditional flooring. Attach it to the floor support structure with brass screws.

you might check into using Ipe. it is a tropical hardwood that is very dense. the only bad thing about it is if you are planning on staining the wood , ipe doesnt take a stain real well.

basically been covered. but marine ply is the best, but the most epensive. if your going for a traditional look, brass screws, if you intend on covering, go marine grade stainless steel. (not stainless you get from home depot etc, thats not marine grade)
if your carpeting, id recommend, you coat the wood anyway, in resin, and if you can, fiberglass it. it will strenghthen it, and help hold out water. if you want a non slip deck, using fiberglass, be sure to gelcoat the deck using flowcoat (a gelcoat mixed with wax for use out of molds)
