What is in the lower unit of a 140 hp evinrude outboard?

Hey, i just got a used lower unit of another evinrude 140hp outboard. i was wondering if the prop shaft was located in it. is there only one propshaft? or is there 2 parts to it? do i need to get a new seal to mount the new(used) one i just got to the rest of the engine? can i buy some kind of sealant to seal it or do i need a gasket? thanks
You should have gotten a new one .. would probably last longer and less headache, but since you want to fix it, Try this link … it will show you exactly what is inside the lower unit.
Its real obvious that you don't have a lot of experience with outboard motors….. My suggestion would be to have a qualified outboard mechanic assemble the lower unit, or you can plan on much more expensive repairs later on.

me and my dad rebuilt the lower unit in a 50hp johnson go to your local libuary and check out a chilton mechanic book for your motor and it will tell you everything you need to know

use a gasket, after working at a boat yard for 4 years and having to deal with the headsches of people trying to use glue. You won't be on their good side.

no seal or gaskets needed. doesnt have one.
there is one propshaft and one driveshaft. prop shaft is the on e the prop goes on, sticking out the back. driveshaft connest with the crankshaft at the powerhead, the one sticking out the top.
