Fitting another engine is possible but the rear engine mount housing has the specific 4 cyl. GM bolt pattern. One car engine that would fit is the 2.5 ltr GM pontiac "Iron duke" , the mercruiser exhaust does not go on the 2.5 cyl. head so you ll have to swap it. There are differences between "marine-ized" engines and stock auto engines. If your question is can you switch to a V-6 or V-8 GM then the answer is No! It's not only the engine but the drive that's mated to the engine. Everything from gear ratio to mountings change.
