General Maintenance on a 1991 Force 120HP Outboard?

Recently bought a 120 HP Force outboard. Any suggestions on maintenance. Anything I should be cautious of?

if you don't when the impeller was last changed, do it. replace the gear lube. if you have ANY problem with going dead when you shift in gear or it won't come alive when you give it full throttle in gear, stop and take it to a pro. be careful to monitor the temp. when you run it under load. they have a t-stat quirk.

Make sure to install fuel water seperator the new ethanol gas is causing alot of fuel system problems. Replacing the impellar would be a good idea to, it will save you alot of trouble down the road. That engine should be serviced at 20, 50, 100, and 200 hours after 200 I would service it every season due to the age of engine. You need to find out how many hours the engine has on it and go from there.

  • I have a 1993 Bayliner with what I hope is a 1992/93 Force 120hp, engine is in great shape but has been sitting for 4 years, started doing normal maintenance, impeller change, new plugs etc and went to start engine and discovered that some of the wiring around stator and timer base has rotted away. I have been told this is a problem with these engines. I am looking for parts at present, does anyone have any info on the engine and parts search. cpressly@gmail.com
