Harry Larsen’s flying Bayliner
You visited a few times and I would appreciate your thoughts on this post, why not comment?
Harry Larsen comes from a family of boat builders, so it is natural for him, following his retirement from Boeing, to build a special boat. About 2000 he fitted hydrofoils to a 24′ Bayliner. That was the easy part, he says. Special talent was required to adapt a laptop computer as an autopilot for roll control. Mechanical and hydraulic devices control pitch and height. This is low altitude aviation, and the boat is a pleasure to fly.

It’s this kind of …
It’s this kind of know-how that makes me hope and beleive that there is still brighter future for our country.
What is the effect of the hydrofoil on the boats speed and gasoline fuel economy?
that would be fun …
that would be fun to haul through a no wake zone at 39 MPH. lol.
sweet boat.

What a great feat of engineering, a fantastic project!

So smooth and stable…would love to see more pics of the hydrofoil setup. Beautiful!!!
Afte his retirement …
Afte his retirement from Boeing – the obvious and natural type of employment for a man from a long famil of boat builders!

It is about 15% …
It is about 15% faster with the same power and fuel usage. The boat is designed to transverse 3′ steep waves. The boat has passed through larger wakes up to 4-5′. The outdrive is extended 29″.

Hey there!
Got a Bayliner 2450, and I would like to build in into a hydro foil and maybe a pair of wings!
He, he. Please put some more info up on the boat.
Congratulations on …
Congratulations on your design! As an owner/pilot of a Windrider Rave, I’m already ‘in your camp’ in some ways. Have you done fuel usage, power, and velocity comparative analysis with the no-foils version? Does the current implementation of the leading ’skimmer’ limit the wave height through which you can foil? I imagine that there needed to be some power drive modifications also.
