1997 force outboard 120 hp. Idles high and Idle surges.?
Any help with this problem would be great. I have installed new plugs but the idle still surges and goes up and down.
check vacum system lines, if something is disconnected or has a leak, the motor will idle high and will ‘ghost’ rev
capitalism and unions?
just heard that Mercury Marine is going to be closing operations at their fond du lac, wi factory in 2012 because the union wouldn’t take concessions to help Mercury Marine during the economic crisis. when will the working class realize that if they want to continue working low-skill/no-skill required labor, they must also take the monetary hit along with the business they work for during the downturn. please, in your answers, don’t bring up how businesses continually take advantage of union workers by limiting medical coverages, decreasing wages, etc. you guys made the choice to become laborers when you took the low-skill/no-skill job in the first place and with that job comes a certain wage and benefits. what are your thoughts?
You are to take an ‘A’ for the day.
Now, move to the head of the class.
You have nailed it. There is no way that you are in error. You, in fact, are right on target.
My thought, in answer to the question, is that capitalism can survive best when union members recognize this fact:
The first job of a union man is to make a profit for his employer.
Absent this recognition, the union members can collectively price themselves out of employment.
96 120 hp force outboard ignition problems.?
I’m hoping someone can help me out. I’ve got a 96 bayliner with a force 120. It runs very good for me . . . when it does. Lately; I was running it and it cut out on me out of nowhere. I wasn’t running it heavily but it acted almost like the key turned off. When I went to start it; it wouldn’t start. Would turn over fine, but wouldn’t start. I waited about 10-15 minutes and it started up fine. I drove it a while and turned the key off to let someone in and when I went to start it again after about 30 seconds; it wouldn’t start. Waited 10 more minutes and it started. I did this for the day and went out again today. The boat started perfectly at the house to clean out the engine and when it was cold and started right up. I drove it for a little bit today and after an hour; I put it into neutral and it stalled out on me. It wouldn’t start no matter how long I waited and would only give me a small attempt to start for one or two revolutions after I waited for a while. I don’t know what it is.
Here is what I do know… The carbs are clean, the plugs are decently clean; little bit of carbon/oil but wiped off now, fuel bulb keeps pressure and is clean, all fuses are good, the safety switch is functional and doesn’t ground out when the key is on, the stator gives me 500 ohms when read (good), the boat will try to start for a second after it sits a while but not every time, I took out the spark plugs and grounded them while turning the key and am not getting any spark from any plug from any coil pack.
Can anyone please help me?
no spark any cylinder: first rule out the kill circuit. Disconnect the black wire w/yellow tracer from the powerpack and repeat your spark test. Best to have all the plugs out & leads grounded to the block for this test — if it starts with the kill wire disconnected the only way to shut if off is to flood it by engaging the choke.
If you get spark, the black/yellow kill wire is accidently grounded between the powerpack and the key switch, or the keyswitch is faulty.
Still no spark, there are tests for the powerpack and trigger, you can find those procedures at http://www.outboardignition.com
