Changes to Small Vessel Regulations in Canada

On Friday, the Canada Minister of Transportation, John Baird, introduced proposed new Small Vessel regulations. The regulations attempt to enhance current safety equipment, vessel construction and some operational requirements for pleasure craft. It also includes the introduction of renewable pleasure craft licences.
“The entire industry has been anxiously awaiting the regulations. NMMA Canada will be reviewing the changes in detail and will provide comment through the official Gazette process within the 30 day comment period”, said Sara Anghel, Vice President, Government Relations and Public Affairs of NMMA Canada. Anghel will participate this week in the bi-annual Canadian Marine Advisory Council (CMAC) meeting in Ottawa where details of the changes will be outlined by Transport Canada staff.
If anyone has comments to make in this matter, they should contact NMMA Canada at sanghel@nmma.org or provide written comment directly to Transport Canada prior to the deadline of May 25, 2009.
